- K‑1s from partnerships, S‑corps, estates or trusts
- Rental income records
- Crypto / digital asset transaction history
- Anything else that says "1099"
Deductions & credits
- 1098 — mortgage interest; property tax bills
- 1098‑T — tuition; 1098‑E — student loan interest
- Childcare provider name, address, EIN, and amount paid
- Charitable donation receipts (cash and non‑cash)
- Medical expenses, if they were substantial
- 1095‑A if you had Marketplace health insurance
- IRA / HSA contribution records (Form 5498, 5498‑SA)
- Estimated tax payments made during the year (dates & amounts)
- Teacher classroom expenses, energy‑efficient home improvements
Business owners only
Business & self‑employed
- Profit & loss statement, or your bookkeeping file / bank statements
- Business expense records (or the shoebox — we mean it)
- Vehicle mileage log or total business miles
- Home office square footage (office and whole home)
- Asset purchases — equipment, vehicles, property (invoices)
- Payroll reports, if you have employees
- 1099s you issued to contractors
- Health insurance premiums paid as a self‑employed person
